New DRC service launched

Alan Peat A NEW cargo air service has just been established, flying weekly on the airways between SA and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). According to Mauro de Nicola, owner of the SA-based general sales agents (GSA) Aero Cargo Services, approval has been gained for the scheduled service under the SA/DRC bi-lateral aviation agreement. The route for the flight is from Kinshasa, Mbji Mayi and Lubumbashi in the DRC to Johannesburg each Thursday, and return along the same route on Friday - using a 20-ton capacity Boeing 727-200 freighter owned by DRC-based company, Wimbi Dira Airways. “Meantime,” De Nicola told FTW, “we have a 34-ton Boeing 707 in Kinshasa as a back-up aircraft.”
