New DCT facility will ease truck flow

AT A meeting with port users last week, the Durban container terminal (DCT) management announced that the new “A check” facility would open on June 17 – and the process will be 100% operational before the end of the month. This is a revolutionary move for the road transport industry, according to Kevin Martin, vicechairman of the Durban harbour carriers association (DHCA) section of the SA Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff). It will supply a much needed parking space for 3 00 heavy vehicles, he told FTW, and will allow a circular flow of traffic through the terminal. Both of which will vastly reduce the stress on the road leading to-and-from the DCT.
