A cargo innovator from Florida in the US has introduced what it claims is a global first, a five-in-one, foldable forty-foot high-cube shipping container, the SeaFold HC 40.
With over 20 per cent of all ISO containers returning to their port of origin empty, Compact Container Systems (CCS), offers the potential to reduce container repositioning costs by 56%, storage space by 80%, and carbon emissions by up to 70%.
According to CCS, the container aims to solve operational inefficiencies, minimise unnecessary container movements, and significantly lower carbon emissions across the transportation and logistics supply chain.
The company’s chairman and CEO, Charlie Santos-Buch, said: “The ability to fit five of our folded containers in the same slot as a single FEU high-cube standard container is transformative for managing container movements, optimising storage capacity, and reducing carbon emissions.
“Whether it’s saving on cost or space, our containers provide a safer, more efficient operating and storage system at ports, terminals, or depots. This is especially crucial during peak seasons when congestion is high and moving out empty containers is a priority.”
The SeaFold 40 was developed through extensive research and engineering expertise and is manufactured using premium industry-standard materials, a company statement said.
It has passed all ISO and water ingress testing, and it is compatible with all standard lifting equipment used at most ports, terminals, and depots. No special equipment is required to operate the container.
