The new YI LI DA SA R150-million eco-friendly blanket factory – which opened in Boksburg last week Friday – is set to start production soon, creating over 1 000 jobs in the country.

Chairman of YI LI DA SA, Yong Qian, pointed out that the blanket manufacturing process  would be implemented over two phases, starting with blanket weaving where the polyester filament yarn, the raw material for this manufacturing process, would initially  be imported from China.

“In the second phase local polyester plastic bottles will be utilised as raw material to manufacture polyester filament yarn and a texturing factory will be set up,” he said, adding that the manufacturing process was the first of its kind in South Africa as current manufacturers were still using acrylic fibres as the main material.
