The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) has, with immediate effect, implemented a local beneficiation on all its tenders.
Namibian daily newspaper, the New Era, cited Namport CEO Bisey Uirab as saying that this meant that all Namport tenders would require mandatory participation of Namibian-registered companies in which Namibians held at least 51% effective ownership of the tendering entity.
Furthermore, at least 30% of the ownership of the company should be held by previously disadvantaged Namibians or should be part of a joint venture.
