Preparation of facility under way Alan Peat CUSTOMS HAS just officially approved the MSC Logistics application for a depot licence in Johannesburg, according to director Peter Lewin. "We applied for this so that we could expand the full logistical facility that we offered to clients for import/export traffic routed through Johannesburg," he told FTW. MSC's official confirmation followed customs' finalisation of its policy structure for the issuing of licences, he added. "Final arrangements are now underway for the preparation of the facility to meet customs requirements," said Lewin. "This will allow for the opening of the depot in the near future." The services offered will include a customs depot; an empty container depot; and a cartage operation run by MSC Carrier for the delivery and collection of containers. The inclusion of a customs depot in Johannesburg will ensure that MSC can offer a comprehensive logistical service to import and export clients in Gauteng, he said.
