MSC asks port authority to expand for bigger ships

To further its objective of expanding activities in Antwerp, Belgium, shipping company MSC has officially asked Antwerp Port Authority (APA) for the opportunity to do this via the Deurganck dock.
The APA has, in return, issued an invitation for expressions of interest to determine whether there are other “significant market opportunities of a similar nature”, says a statement from the port authority.
MSC notes that it has developed its European hub in the Delwaide dock, but this location does not have any more room for growth, especially in light of the fact that the company will start using ships of 16 000 and 18 000 TEUs in the near future, and requires more compatible handling.
