The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) recently handed over the keys of 54 houses to 54 beneficiaries in Macleantown, outside East London, in the Eastern Cape.
The Macleantown project, with an investment value of R 6 million, already has beneficiaries utilising the houses, all of which have running water, sanitation and electricity.
The project saw 27 emerging contractors within the Buffalo City Municipality trained by the National Home Builders’ Registration Council (NHBRC) as part of the CDC’s SMME development and support programme.
The CDC mentored the emerging contractors who worked on the project to ensure high quality construction.
“All the projects implemented by the CDC aim to give hope to many communities in the impoverished areas of the Eastern Cape, in line with the organisation’s mandate and vision,” said Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, CDC unit head marketing and communications.
