These expansions are set to start on October 27 this year, said Dr Andre Schulz, Lufthansa group manager for southern Africa.

He told FTW the airline group was looking at further expansion into South Africa as part of its global expansion strategy.

According to Wesgro’s Tim Harris, more than ten direct flights have been introduced since the establishment of the Cape’s Air Access team in 2014 while a host of routes have been expanded.

Obtaining direct flights from the US and the Far East remains a priority for the team which includes Wesgro, the Western Province government, the City of Cape Town, the Airports Company of South Africa and SA Tourism.
