Best achievers will be offered permanent employment MOL SOUTH Africa has put its money where its mouth is with regard to skills training. The line has embarked on a learnership programme that will equip each participant with the National Certificate in Shipping once this qualification has been registered on the National Qualifications Framework “Learnerships represent a key element for ensuring that our organisation is resourced with the all-round skills essential for survival,” says MOL SA MD Dave Giraudeau. “We are presently a very skills- starved industry,” he added. The programme is part of the company’s commitment to meet and exceed government’s Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) targets, says national HR manager Carol Barends. “The fact that we can enrol people on a course of study which will not only give them a formal qualification but will also give them the competencies needed to progress through the ranks aligns perfectly with our strategy. “It has also enabled us to take on previously unemployed people and involve them in intensive training with a view to offering the best achievers permanent employment at the end of the programme. Those whom we can’t accommodate will have a very marketable qualification to offer other companies within our industry” Global Trade Training (GTT) is the chosen service provider and will customise the learning material to MOL’s requirements. Web-based delivery means that all training will take place in the workplace. “The GTT management system enables us to monitor the progress of all learners at head office and regional levels in real time providing big benefits for a geographically spread organisation like ours,” said Barends.
