Anna Cox THERE WILL always be a place and scope for smaller forwarding and clearing agents in the industry, said Mike Todd of MMA. The company, which is a neutral consolidator, deals almost exclusively with smaller forwarding and clearing agents. “I believe these smaller agents will be around for a long time,” he said. MMA has grown from strength to strength in its 11 months of existence. The company has, since its inception, concentrated on import consolidation. However, in October it will be further expanding to include export groupage. “We have been pleasantly surprised by our growth and have received the support of our many clients. We are growing well and expanding steadily,” said Todd. MMA’s main import markets are the US, UK and the Far East. It recently launched a groupage service out of US through Speed Handling Wholesalers, becoming its South African representative. According to Todd competitive rates are on offer from Johannesburg to Amsterdam which, he says is a good hub for other points in Europe such as Germany and Scandinavia. “The Far East is a growing market and MMA enjoys excellent representation in Taipei, Hong Kong and Mainland China.”
