DESPITE RECURRENT rumours in the industry, the forwarding company, Micor, has not been laying off staff, according to m.d. Garth Schwikkard.
Where there is some confusion, he added, is in the fact that holding company, Micind (Micor Industrial Corporation), has sold off a number of its companies - after the introduction of Vestacor as a strategic shareholder.
An unbundling, said Schwikkard, that will allow us to focus on our core freight and logistics activities.
These activities are being repositioned to provide a platform to service clients with integrated logistics solutions. These offering supply chain management, and outsourced services.
The two industrial concerns that have been disposed of are the Goscor Group - suppliers of after-sales service for a range of branded industrial products - and Bandsawing Services, which supplies metal cutting equipment and consumables.
The freight section that Micind has sold is the national transport and distribution business - Ratner & Collet Agencies, trading as R&C X-press Freight.
It is in certain of these businesses that the new owners have had to retrench some staff numbers, according to Schwikkard.
