Dr Bonginkosi Emmanuel "Blade" Nzimande (59) is the new Minister of Transport, announced in a late night cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In the President Zuma cabinet he held the position of Minister for Higher Education and Training from 2009 to 2017 and has been general secretary of the South African Communist Party since 1998.
He holds a masters degree in psychology and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of KwaZulu Natal.
Nzimande takes over from previous incumbent Joe Maswanganyi who is no longer in the cabinet.
