Targeting profits of R1-bn TERRY HUTSON Last week the Sapo CEO introduced his new management team to a group of Durban media representatives. Because of restructuring, which is the result of a new mandate from Transnet and government extending Sapo’s role in the ports, some of the senior positions either became vacant or have been restructured. “I have given an undertaking to improve efficiencies, reduce cost and enhance freight logistics between ports and rail so that Sapo can grow its existing business whilst attracting new business,” Morwe said last week. To this end Sapo has undergone stringent restructuring of the general management and business unit management positions which saw a number of senior managers either leave the organisation or transfer into other positions. The new appointees at Sapo terminals include Lekau Solly Letsoala as general manager at the high profile Durban Container Terminal. His portfolio includes that of capacity planning. Nozipho Mdawe has taken the reins at Durban’s Multi Purpose Terminal (MPT) as business unit executive. In Saldanha Leon Broom has been appointed business unit executive of the Saldanha Iron Ore Terminal. Athene van Mazijk becomes the new GM of support services, and Velile Dube is the GM of new business development. Both are based at head office in Kingsmead.
