KEVIN MAYHEW ZAMBIA IS emerging as a major transport route for Makamba Clearing and Forwarding which recently signed supply contracts with six Copperbelt mines in the north of the country. The contract is for the transport of capital equipment and spares mainly for the mining industry, says managing director Dave Breedt. He said the rainy season had unfortunately impacted on road transport into Angola that was previously an alternative option to the sea as Angola is a major destination for the Johannesburg-based company. “Zambia is obviously a prime transit route and we are also gaining a good foothold in the southern part of the DRC which, in itself, is almost part of the Zambian Copperbelt,” he said. Makamba is still a young and upcoming company and specialises in a whole range of services.
