A major link road between KwaNobuhle and the Uitenhage CBD in the Eastern Cape has officially been opened following its reconstruction.
The rehabilitation project – which cost almost R21 million – included the resurfacing and widening of the road as well as construction of kerbs and storm water catch pits.
Nelson Mandela Bay executive mayor, Athol Trollip, noted that rehabilitation of Magennis Street was part of the city’s plans to improve road and infrastructure in areas such as Uitenhage in order to attract economic development.
“If we are serious about improving our economy and creating jobs, infrastructure improvement is a major catalyst,” he said.
Trollip added that five new R2.5-million 4-ton trucks had been purchased to be used by storm water drainage officials.
