Maersk takes cautious approach to Iranian services

The world’s largest shipping line, Maersk, has taken a cautious approach to resuming services to Iran, noting that it is considering plans to resume services to Iran now that sanctions have been lifted, but has not yet decided when.

According to Lloyd’s List, Maersk said in a statement on Monday that it regarded Iran as “an interesting market”.

“We are looking into how and when we can resume container transportation services to and from Iran,” Maersk reportedly said, adding that no further details would be shared at this point.

This is in contrast to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and some other lines that resumed calls to Iran ahead of the formal removal of sanctions.

MSC resumed services on New Year’s Eve this year while French shipping line CMA CGM said it had resumed Iran services last August.
