Maersk Logistics adds Eastern Cape to network

Logical next step ED RICHARDSON MAERSK LOGISTICS has opened a “one stop logistics shop” in Port Elizabeth to serve the Eastern Cape. “We are offering a total supply chain package which is tailored to suit the customers’ specific requirements,” says branch manager Kevin Rose. The opening of the Port Elizabeth office is part of the Maersk Logistics roll-out in South Africa. “Having opened the Johannesburg office in 1999, then Durban and Cape Town, the next logical move was to open in Port Elizabeth in order to service that area effectively. “Our existing client base has shipments moving through this region and it was the next step in our growth plans for South Africa,” he said. The company offers a full logistics service in Port Elizabeth, including planning, management, warehousing and transport. “Our IT systems are cutting-edge in supply chain planning and management enabling full visibility. “We have global system availability with in-house system development capabilities as well as visibility of all transport modes and services. “With more than 200 offices worldwide we can offer the full spectrum to importers and exporters,” he says. At present, the warehousing and transport is provided by third party suppliers contracted by Maersk. Services on offer include clearing and forwarding for both air and sea freight, and warehousing and distribution. Rose says there is a growing demand for these services from companies that need flexibility, efficiency and improved visibility of the logistics chain. He sees logistics as an integral part of the value chain. “We believe in creating true partnerships. Our overall aim is to add value to our clients with our competitive advantages and strengths, including our trained and motivated staff. In other words, we are a “one stop logistics shop,” he says.
