Maersk CE predicts sustained growth

THE CONTAINER shipping business will continue to grow this year and next, according to Maersk Sealand CE, Knud Stubkjaer. In a Reuters report quoted by The Journal of Commerce Online he said: “For 2004 and 2005 it looks as if there will continue to be good economic growth in the various markets, and this will have an effect on the container business.” These comments followed a container conference in London last week, amid industry analysts’ predictions of a slump in the market in 2005 on excess capacity and falling rates. “Our presentation in London showed that the developments in 2004 and 2005 will be positive,” Stubkjaer said.
