MACS upgrades East Africa service

MARITIME CARRIER Shipping has upgraded
its recently-launched East Africa service
(MEAS) with a new vessel and new port
rotation adding flexibility.
The multi-purpose White Rhino with
100mt lifting capacity has joined the Black
Rhino on the route.
The adjusted port rotation sees vessels
calling Durban, Maputo, Tamatave, Mombasa
before returning to Durban via two of the
following ports: Dar-Es-Salaam, Nacala,
Majunga, Beira and Tulear.
Transit times between Durban and
Tamatave and Mombasa are now pegged at
five and nine days respectively.
“The service will offer space for
transhipment cargoes to and from our
mainline services ex Europe and USA and
also for regional cargoes between those
ports,” a spokesman told FTW. “Project
and heavylift cargoes, breakbulk as well as
containers can be accommodated.”
The 5400mt White Rhino has capacity for
350 containers.
