Abalone farm based in mariculture hub Milltrans in Zone 1D of the EL IDZ has been operating since November 2005. Business for the transport and logistics provider has exceeded expectations resulting in the company seeking additional space over and above the 21000m2 site that it already occupies at the IDZ. The company says that its two kilometre proximity to the EL harbour has helped reduce turnaround times. Based in the IDZ’s mariculture hub is Seatek, which occupies a site in the Customs Controlled Area. Apart from its short distance from sea water, this abalone-farming site is situated two kilometres from the airport, allowing faster export time to the markets – an important requirement for ELIDZ’s first export orientated investor. Six mariculture sites are being established in the IDZ. They will fall under a public company to allow a greater spread of benefits. The sixth site will be used as a processing plant to handle the packaging, canning and exporting.
Logistics business exceeds expectation
