Maersk SealandÕs Jay New released the following charges.
"All cargo to/from Pakistan, India and the Gulf - US$100/TEU.
"Egypt, US$125/TEU; Lebanon, US$125/TEU; Israel US$250/TEU."
Said New: "As mentioned earlier, charges are likely to change as the insurance market gets clearer. Hence we should expect changes."
Figures for Lloyd Triestino - which serves SA from the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal - were not directly available at time of going to print. But they could be assumed to follow the initial surcharges released by parent, Evergreen.
They are: Aden, Jeddah - US$200/TEU; Aquaba - US$250/TEU; Egypt, Syria, Lebanon - US$250/TEU; Gulf - US$250/TEU; India via Colombo - US$10/TEU; Via Suez - US$10.
Safmarine, although it again doesnÕt directly serve all the exclusion zones, is very active in the area - and has also released the following adjustments.
All cargo to/from Pakistan and Gulf (except Iraq) - US$100/TEU; to/from Iraq - US$300/TEU; Israel (Haifa and Ashdod) - US$50/TEU; Lebanon (Beirut) - US$50/TEU; Egypt (Alexandria, Damietta, Port Said) - US$25/TEU; Syria (Lattakia, Tartous) - US$25/TEU.
Also, news has been released on the wire that all the Gulf feeder operators have announced war risk surcharges of up to US$850/TEU (Umm Qasr on the Iraq-Kuwait border is the culprit) for containerised cargo loaded or discharged at Middle Eastern and SE Asian ports - although most increases do not exceed $100 per TEU.
