Bunker bashing

THE LATEST FTW back page shows the current bunker price for IF 180 CST in Durban as USD171.00 per metric ton, following the sharp increases in crude oil prices over the past few months.
It should be interesting for readers to realise that the Durban bunker price, in September 1982, of USD176.50 per metric ton was, in fact, higher than the current price!
In rand terms, however, the story is somewhat different ... the 1982 price of USD176.50 equated to R202.87 per ton, whereas today's price of USD171.00 equates to R1308.00 per metric ton!!!
