FTW articles draw reactionI REFER to your article Shippers slam four hour lunch break delay (FTW February 2, 2001) and subsequent item Bureaucracy, not the law, delays vessels in Cape Town (FTW February 9, 2001).
Table Bay pilots are not a signatory to the BCEA and therefore are not governed by their rulings. We do not take meal breaks and are available for shipping movements over a period of 24 hours, seven days a week.
Jon Cousens, chairman, Table Bay Pilots Committee

l Peter Odendaal, chairman of the Association of Shipping Lines, comments: Fact is that a pilot service could not be provided to bring the ship into port. The problem might have been that there was no launch available. Pilot boats, pilots, linesmen etc all fall under Portnet's marine services division.
