BA World Cargo practised with drainpipes to ensure the men's vaulting poles, each 5.3 metres long, were able to fit inside a Boeing 747 to be flown to the Beijing Olympics which got under way this week. The airline carried more than 80 pursuit, road, mountain and BMX bikes, 18 pole vaults, javelins as well as 170 day and competition wheelchairs for the Paralympic athletes.
