Lebombo Customs issues special cargo dispensation

A RECENT hiccup at the Lebombo border post between South Africa and Mozambique has galvanised Customs officials into action. When an export container unpacked at the border post for inspection had to be short-shipped because all the cargo could not be fitted back into the box, it was clear that a special dispensation was called for. Customs has now introduced a new ruling that allows shippers moving “sensitive” cargo to apply for “special attendance” at cargo owner packing facilities. Cargo owners should contact Thobile Mogiba, Customs’ group manager cargo, in advance for advice on first time exports or sensitive consignments.
