The Lapsset Corridor Development Authority signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Land Commission of Kenya yesterday.
The Lapsset Corridor Programme is East Africa's largest and most ambitious infrastructure project bringing together Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
According to a statement, the MoU will provide a framework for collaboration between the LCDA and the NLC for the acquisition of land for the development of Lapsset infrastructure projects.
“The MoU between the two government entities will fast-track the land acquisition and just compensation to Project Affected Persons to prepare the Lapsset Corridor for involvement by the private sector who have already shown massive investment interests in its projects,” said LCDA spokesperson Benson Thuite.
The projects for which land will be acquired include construction of the Lamu Port, special economic zones, Lamu International Airport and a port industrial zone.
