Labelling rules gazetted

THERE ARE proposed changes to the labelling regulations for foodstuffs which were published in AugustÕs Government Gazette Number 23714. These possible new labelling requirements will apply to both local and imported foodstuffs offered for sale in the SA market. The gist of these is that most foodstuffs require both the date of manufacture and of expiry to be indelibly marked on the packaging. And there is a requirement for any imported foodstuffs to have at least 50% of their remaining shelf life left at the time of entry into this country. Closing date for comments is November 8. a
