INCREASING EXPORT demand for cargo destined for Europe, especially perishable goods, has been relieved by the introduction by KLM of a Saturday departure.
This now means the airline has a daily service from Johannesburg, but the Saturday flight is seen as a boon to perishable goods exporters, who often miss the Friday departure and have their cargo waiting until Sunday.
The new schedule came into operation on June 28 and, in addition to Europe and the UK, can also be used for North America and other destinations.
For some time freight forwarders have been pressing us for additional capacity for their clients, says Alex Lens, regional sales manager for Africa, Israel and Turkey.
