The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will implement a minor tariff amendment on containers at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Embakasi, effective 1 May.
According to a statement from the authority, various free storage periods will be offered for both 20- and 40-foot containers at the ICD in order to optimise the use of container storage capacity and make the facility more competitive and user friendly.
The first four consecutive days, upon arrival, will be free for domestic import containers. Thereafter the rates will be US$20 for 20-foot and US$30 for 40-foot containers.
Empty containers for railage will receive the first seven consecutive days free at the ICD, with a US$15 fee subsequently applicable for 20-foot and US$22.50 for 40-foot containers.
The first seven consecutive days to vessel berthing will be free for pre-advised empty containers through the ICD for repatriation, while nominated empty export containers moving by truck to the Port of Mombasa will receive the first four consecutive days to vessel berthing free.
