IF YOU'RE exporting to Kenya, make sure that your
containers don't exceed the allowable weight.
The Kenyan Ministry of Transport has imposed strict limits on weights of containers that are transported into the country, according to Safcor's monthly customer newsletter.
The contents of a 6m container may not exceed 15700 kg. All incoming 6m containers are weighed at the port of Mombasa. Where weights have been misdeclared, fines are imposed. In addition the overweight containers are charged the haulage and handling fees applicable to 12m containers.
The Kenyan authorities also have the right to prohibit the movement of such overweight containers.
