A year after the launch of a joint
venture between Dachser and Jonen
Freight, the South African logistics
provider is being rebranded and
will from now on operate under
the name Dachser South Africa.
The ownership structure remains
unchanged.
“The new name reflects the
integration of the company into the
Dachser network, through which we
link South Africa with the world’s
major economic centres,” says
Thomas Reuter, managing director
of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics.
South Africa is a substantial market
and an important node in this
network, he added.
The joint venture has produced
positive results so far, says Detlev
Duve, managing director of Dachser
South Africa and son of Jonen’s
founder. “Revenue has grown by
over 10%,” he told FTW.
The company has been active
in South Africa for over 30 years.
“We currently employ a staff of 157,
which is 35 more than a year ago,”
said German-born Duve.
Dachser South Africa has branch
offices in Johannesburg, Cape
Town and Durban. In addition to
air and seafreight, the logistics
provider offers a wide range of
supplementary services such as
customs clearance, warehousing and
distribution.
In 2010 Dachser generated total
revenue of €3.8 billion. 19 250
staff working in 310 profit centres
worldwide handled 46.2 million
consignments weighing a total of
35.5 million tonnes.
