IMPORTS are doing very nicely, thank you, but the objective in the year ahead is to match those levels with exports, says Giuseppe Arnoldi, Cape Town director for Jas Forwarding.
“Last year we imported more than 10 000 containers from the Far East to South Africa by sea, and the forecast for this year is not only to increase those volumes but to meet them with exports.
“We also move substantial import and export air shipments, both perishables and general cargo, and our group’s expertise allows us to handle a wide variety of shipments such as relocating entire factories, transporting the PopeMobile for official visits overseas and exporting wood on charter vessels.”
Jas Forwarding is also heavily involved in forwarding goods for the fashion industry as well as full charter flights from the US to Iraq on behalf of the Peristatal American Organisation, says Arnoldi.
The company has been active in South Africa for 22 years and has six offices - Johannesburg, Johannesburg International Airport, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Cape Town International Airport.
It operates from its own buildings in Germiston, Johannesburg and Montague Gardens outside Cape Town where office and warehouse space doubled to 2 300m2 last year.
Established in Italy in 1978, Jas Forwarding became the first IATA company in that country in 1983.
