FROM JANUARY to June 2000, bulk wines exported from South Africa to Japan increased by 38.5% over the same period during the previous year, making South Africa Japan's 10th largest supplier of wine. That's according to Mikio Nagata, executive director of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in Johannesburg, who points to an increased demand for new foreign products, offering overseas food and drink companies opportunities to sell to both manufacturers and retailers.
