PORTNET'S COMMITMENT to the port of Ngqura will complement but not duplicate infrastructural developments elsewhere in the country, says port authority CEO Siyabonga Gama.
Asked whether the start of construction at Coega would have any effect on expansion plans for Durban harbour, Gama told FTW that Durban and Ngqura are not similar. Neither is Ngqura similar to Port Elizabeth.
We have to ensure that they complement each other. It is critical that we do not duplicate our dollar investment. Ngqura must add value to the port system as a whole.
It is not our view that Ngqura has implications for the other ports.
The Coega Industrial Development Zone is set to inject new industries into the country.
