Investigation under way after partial sinking of vessel at Durban Port

The Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has confirmed the partial sinking of a vessel at the Port of Durban.

Justin Adams, Acting Harbour Master at the Port of Durban said in a statement that the vessel, known as the SAS Durban, was a minesweeper belonging to the Durban Port Maritime Museum and was used as a floating exhibit in the port.

Adams has confirmed that no individuals were on board when the vessel took on water overnight on Monday, June 29. A diving company has been hired to investigate the cause of the sinking.

According to TNPA the vessel had no oil on board, and there is no concern about pollution.
