An investigation is under way to determine the cause of an accident in which a CN Rail freight train collided with a Wisconsin Southern train on Sunday night causing a derailment that left two crew members injured and triggered the evacuation of more than 100 homes.
CN spokesman Patrick Waldron said in an online statement that the accident had happened at a rail intersection in the town of Slinger, Wisconsin in the United States, about 56 kilometres northwest of Milwaukee.
The local Wisconsin FOX6 TV station reported that Slinger fire chief, Rick Hanke, had told a midnight news briefing three locomotives and 10 cars had derailed, and that 19 000 litres of diesel fuel had been spilled.
