Inflation continues to ease

INFLATION IN South Africa in February continued its downward trend, according to Standard Bank economist, Monica Ambrosi. The February consumer price index (CPI) figure was 12.5%, compared to January’s 13.7%. While consumer price increases are easing, food prices also appear to be responding to softer producer prices, she said. In contrast upward housing pressures persist; and the prime interest rate is expected to remain at 17% for a few more months.
