Industry mum over Ramos successor

As industry speculation mounts over who will be appointed CEO of Transnet following the departure of Maria Ramos, several sources have mentioned the name of Transnet Freight Rail CEO Siyabonga Gama. But the private sector was non-committal in interviews with FTW. The matter, said our interviewees, was too much of a “sensitive” nature for public comment. LM Pelser, chairman of the SA Shippers’ Council (SASC), was a rather typical example. “We have had a good rapport with Siyabonga,” he told FTW. “But we have no comment in such a political issue. “However, no matter who is chosen, we will support that person.”
