On Monday, India's central government announced the ban on the import of apples worth less than Rs50 per kilogram.
According to the new ban, excluding Bhutan, if the apples are valued at less than Rs50 per kilogram, they will not fit under the imports category.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) released a statement noting that if the price is above Rs50 per kilogram, then it is import-free.
It is predicted that India will import $296 million worth of apples, compared to $ 385.1 million worth imported in 2022.
The main countries exporting apples to India include South Africa, the USA, Iran, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, France, Belgium, Chile, Italy, Turkey, New Zealand, and Poland.
Although imports from the USA, UAE, France, and Afghanistan have decreased, Poland's imports increased by 83.36% between 2022 and 2023.
