On 12 June 2026, the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) released an ‘important notice’ to all import and export permit applicants.
The notice reads:
“Dear applicants, ITAC acknowledges the recent complaints with regard to turnaround times in the issuance of permits.
“ITAC has been receiving an unusually high volume of import and export applications for personal-use goods such as cell phones and laptops.
“Please note that due to this spike, responses to emails and the turnaround time for generating import and export permits is negatively affected.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused in this regard and are doing our best to assist all applicants.”
