Eddie Ribeiro É considering expanding focus to Angola. EDDIE RIBEIRO has joined road transport major Ikamiji Freight as fleet manager. After ten years in the road transport industry spanning the full spectrum from tyres to courier to overborder haulage, Ribeiro brings to the position a clear understanding of the technical aspects of running the fleet as well as the importance of time-critical delivery. Understanding the problems facing drivers along the route is a crucial element of managing the driver fleet effectively, which is why Ribeiro travelled the route on board one of his trucks to experience the problems at first hand. Having set its focus on Mozambique long before the country became South Africa’s number one trading partner in Africa, Ikamiji has entrenched itself on the route. It currently runs a fleet of 12 trucks and trailers, two 3,5ton bakkies and two one-tonners. Plans are afoot to bring Superlinks into the fleet later this year. These will be especially suited to the Mozambique route. The company, which also serves Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia for existing clients on a subcontracted basis, is considering expanding its focus to Angola. Negotiations are also underway with a major consortium which could see the fleet doubled by the end of the year, but further details are still under wraps.
