There are three priorities for
the air cargo supply chain, as
it searches for greater future
efficiencies, according to Giovanni
Bisignani, director-general and
CEO of the International Air
Transport Association (Iata).
He headlined them as: Security,
e-freight and Cargo 2000.
“Air cargo security costs
continue to rise,” he told FTW.
“Screening technology is not
being optimised and definitions,
requirements and enforcement
vary from country to country.”
The association also hit out
at the US plans to implement
100% cargo screening in 2010. It
described these as “misguided”.
He felt that Iata’s secure freight
strategy provided the best solution
to the security issue.
It focused on a risk-based
approach – with shared
responsibility throughout the
supply chain.
