The Port of Maputo made history last Wednesday with the arrival of the largest-ever vessel.
The Danish-flagged 7100-TEU Santa Catarina, operated by Maersk, “set a new record for the highest TEU-per-single interchange of 3 310 twenty-foot equal units,” said Mark Neel, general manager of DP World, the port’s terminal operator.
The visit by the Santa Catarina re-affirmed Maputo’s growing popularity as a southern African port, Neel added.
“The terminal throughput has been growing exponentially, with 2019 volumes rising by 53% compared to the previous year.”
