GENERAL SALES agent for Delta Airlines and Thai Airways, GSAfrica is on the move. Sarel van Wyk has been appointed sales and marketing manager. He brings 27 years of experience to the position in a variety of roles with the national carrier. In a further expansion of its global footprint, GSAfrica will open an office in Mauritius, selling Thai and Delta off-line and servicing the Indian Ocean Islands of Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Comores and Reunion. “There’s been a steady growth in volumes moving to Bangkok,” says GSAfrica MD Anne Sanders. “We’re starting to move a lot of live animals as well as lobster and abalone.” Good connections out of Bangkok are a key reason for the growth, she added, with transit times often less than an hour and a half. “We’re also starting to promote transhipments to Australia and New Zealand with regular flights serving Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.” In pursuit of its longheld goal to create an African network for its international airline customers following the collapse of partnership talks with a South African airline, GSAfrica is considering sourcing an aircraft to work in Africa.
