OPERATING IN close proximity to its Western Cape customer base stands WGS (Cape) in good stead, enabling the company to respond rapidly to requirements by making on-thespot decisions. Mandy Gibson, marketing manager for WGS, a Cape Town-based, privately-owned company, says that as an independent NVOCC it is maintaining and growing its position as a major contender through consistent service levels and competitive rates due to strong buying power with the carriers. The core business of WGS is the provision of weekly direct sailings from the Far East, in order to transport clients’ cargo as quickly and efficiently as possible, at the same time enabling it to move cargo in some fairly time-sensitive sectors, the retail industry, for instance. “As an NVOCC neutrality remains a cornerstone of the operation whose client base comprises the forwarding industry in Cape Town,” says Gibson. “Working with exclusive partners enables WGS to offer a seamless operation from origin to discharge.” Looking ahead, WGS is constantly adding new routes to its bouquet of services and has identified several areas for development this year. In addition to weekly services ex Hong Kong, Shekou, Shanghai, Taiwan and Korea, WGS now also offers a weekly consolidation service ex South East Asia and India via its Singapore hub.
