I read with interest your article about Ron McLundie's retirement (September 3,1999) and felt I just had to send a reply as it brought back to me many happy memories as a former employee of Ellerman & Bucknall in Port Elizabeth. I was surfing the net as we say and I came across lots of extremely interesting articles on SA and can even listen to the SA news on live broadcast while I am composing my mail.
To the people who don't know me my name is Marilyn Haywood and to the ones who remember me a very big hello to you all.
I am a former employee of E & B and worked alongside Mr. Lewis, Mr. Barker and Carla in the Port Elizabeth office.
Congratulations to Ron on retirement from Ellerman & Bucknall, I wish you many happy years relaxing in the beautiful South African sunshine; don't ever leave it you will never get Africa out of your system. We speak about it often and our two sons who are married with children of their own still remember living in PE and tell their children about it and the visits to the City Ships and the Mitsui
OSK cargo vessels. I once remember Mr. Barker (Chris) saying: Marilyn they are not boats they are ships.
I never did forget (happy memories).
If anyone wishes to e-mail me, I now live in Canada and my e-mail is haywood@nonline.net
