Govan moves in as Green leaves

CAPE Town's port services manager Malcolm Green leaves Portnet at the end of March to pursue a high-profile career as distribution services manager for SAB International in Europe.
Green, who turns 40 on March 31, the day he leaves Portnet, is succeeded by East London's former port services manager, Sanjay Govan, 34.
Green said he had been offered a more senior trade-related position within Portnet but had been unable to consider
it in view of the highly attractive SAB offer
at international headquarters in Budapest, Hungary.
He recalls when he arrived in 1999 as port operations manager that the Port Liaison Forum (PLF) was mainly a Portnet-bashing body, so much so, that he termed it the Portnet Lashing Forum. The mood in Cape Town is now much more constructive overall.
On whether anything undone remains, Green says he would have liked
to see a 100% service
ethic firmly in place.
What is more, we are clearly not competitive enough in terms of our service offerings although we are getting there.
The (Portnet) organisation - and it knows it - is burdened with too many people and there has to come a time for right-sizing which is not a union-friendly message.
