Good progress on Mombasa’s second container terminal Construction of the second container terminal at the Port of Mombasa is now 38 per cent complete with the first phase expected to be ready by March 2016, according to the Kenya Ports Authority. The contractor is three months ahead of time, a KPA spokesman said. The 1.2 million-TEU terminal will increase the current overall port capacity by 15 million tons. Meantime the implementation of an Integrated Security System (ISS) at the port is now 95 per cent complete and is scheduled to go-live before end of this month (June). The system is designed to safeguard the port and raise security standards to international (IMO) levels.
