Global logistics major expands African presence

DB Schenker Logistics has expanded its presence in Africa with new branches in Angola and Mozambique, the group announced this week.

Former partner Bochimar, Lda has been integrated into the DB Schenker network after nine years of “a strong and growing partnership”. And in Mozambique, DB Schenker has established a branch office located in Maputo.

“In line with our growth strategy, we continue to intensify our own presence in interesting markets,” says Dr Thomas Lieb, chairman of the Schenker AG Board of Management and responsible for the worldwide business of DB Schenker Logistics. “We are convinced that future growth in the global economy will also come from Africa.”

Philippe Gilbert, regional director region Europe West, said: “We will continue our current focus on trades between Europe and Angola, and we will certainly expand our service offering into oil and gas activities.”  Branches in Luanda and Lobito, and cooperation in Namibe, Soyo and Cabinda have allowed DB Schenker to create a strong national network in Angola, said Gilbert.

Additionally, the company has established a branch office in Mozambique, located in Maputo. A regional partner agreement ended on May 31, 2014. The Mozambique office is a branch office of Schenker South Africa and is operated independently from the South African organisation and in accordance with Mozambique laws and regulations.
